HISTORY AND MISSION:
The Champion Institute of Real Estate is owned and operated by Champion Realty, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Home Services of America, Inc., with headquarters in Severna Park, Maryland. Its officers are Jon Coile, President and Carol Ross, Chief Financial Officer. The mission of the school is to teach prospective real estate agents the theory and principles of real estate and prepare them for entry as real estate sales agents.
The program consists of 60-clock hours of the Principles and Practices of Real Estate. Graduates of the program will be eligible to take the Maryland Real Estate Salesperson’s Examination.

FACILITY:
Classes are held at 541 B. Baltimore Annapolis Blvd., Severna Park, Maryland. The training facility is on the corner of Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. and McKinsey Rd. An additional facility is located at 1667 Crofton Center, Crofton. The Crofton office is on Rte. 3, just south of Davidsonville Rd. A third facility is located at 8614 Ocean Gateway, Easton, Md. 21601. The Easton site is located on Rte. 50 south. All sites are fully equipped with dry erase board, flipchart, overhead, TV, VCR and LCD projector. There is ample, free parking for students.
The Principles and Practices of Real Estate 101A course is offered on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6pm until 10pm, for a total of 5 weeks, 4 hours of instruction per evening and 12 hours of instruction per week. Course 101A is held at the Severna Park, Crofton and Easton sites. The Principles and Practices of Real Estate course 101 is offered Monday through Friday at the Severna Park Training Center from 9am until 4:30pm for two weeks with a total of 6.5 hours of instruction per day and 30 hours of instruction per week. The total program is 60 clock hours.
If Anne Arundel Community College is closed due to inclement weather, course 101A classes in Crofton and Severna Park will likewise be cancelled. If Chesapeake Community College is closed, course 101A classes in Easton will be cancelled. Similarly, if Anne Arundel Community College is closed due to inclement weather, course 101 classes in Severna Park will also be cancelled. All cancelled classes will be rescheduled within two weeks. The instructor will announce make-up days.
The school will observe the following legal holidays and vacations:

*The Champion Institute has no formal vacation policy.
Forty courses will be offered annually beginning in January.
ENROLLMENT AND ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have graduated from high school or received a G.E.D., and have verbal and written proficiency in English. Students must provide evidence of high school completion or equivalency by providing a copy of a high school diploma or GED prior to the beginning of class. If a student does not possess a high school diploma or G.E.D., the student must take the Wonderlic admissions test. The minimum passing score is 18. If the student fails the test, the student may re-take the test at orientation which is scheduled one hour prior to the first class. Students may re-take the admissions test once.
Students may enroll for the next available class by contacting Ev Valanos, Career Counselor, at 410-975-3240 to make an appointment to stop by the Champion Institute of Real Estate, fill out an Enrollment Agreement and pay all fees. In the event the class has reached enrollment capacity, the student, at his or her option, will be enrolled in the next scheduled program. Criminal convictions may affect a student’s ability to be licensed.
Each Principles and Practices of Real Estate program being offered is contingent upon a minimum enrollment determined by the School Director. The Champion Institute of Real Estate does not grant credit for previous training.
Upon request, students and prospective students may obtain information from the Maryland Higher Education Commission regarding the performance of the Champion Institute of Real Estate’s Principles and Practices of Real Estate course. This information includes, but is not limited to the program’s enrollment, completion rate, and pass rate of graduates on the state exam for licensure. The address and telephone number of the Maryland Higher Education Commission can be found on page 8 of this catalog.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course has been approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission and the Maryland Real Estate Commission, satisfying the minimum educational requirements for eligibility to sit for the Maryland Real Estate Salesperson’s Examination. Students can expect to spend an average of 10 hours per week completing homework.
The objectives of the course are to familiarize the student with the basic principles involved in the sale, purchase, lease, ownership and transfer of real property interests and to satisfy the basic educational requirements of the Maryland Real Estate Commission for a license to sell real estate.
The student-instructor ratio will not exceed 24:1 in the Severna Park Training Center, 20:1 in the Easton training facility, nor will it exceed 18:1 in the Crofton training facility.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
Upon successful completion of the program, a student will receive a certificate. Successful completion requires that the student achieve at least a “C” (70%) average, have a minimum attendance rate of 100%, complete 60 hours of training with no more than 12 hours of make-up classes and meet all financial obligations to the school.
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Attendance is tracked by the hour at the Champion Institute of Real Estate. Students are expected to be on time and well prepared for the class with all assignments completed. Students who arrive more than 15 minutes late or leave more than 10 minutes early will be counted as absent for that hour.
The Maryland Real Estate Commission requires a minimum of 60 instructional hours to be eligible to sit for the real estate exam. Therefore, students must make every effort to attend every class. Should circumstances warrant, a student may miss a maximum of 12 hours of class. All hours missed must be made up within three months after the scheduled completion date of the class in which the student was originally enrolled. Students may make up the missed hours in the next available class, subject to space and prior approval by the school. Obtaining proof of attendance at a make-up class shall be the sole responsibility of the student. Any student not completing the entire 60 hour program will not be eligible to graduate and will not be able to take the state licensing exam. Student’s attendance will be evaluated daily.
Any student missing more than twelve total hours of class will be terminated. A student may re-enter the program on a space-available basis in the next available class and will be granted advanced standing for the portion of the program completed, provided the student re-enters within three months.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE:
A student may be granted a one-time leave of absence for a maximum of 180 days for extreme situations which would prevent the student from completing the course on time. The student must request the leave of absence in advance in writing. If the student does not return as scheduled, the student will be terminated.
TESTS AND EXAMINATIONS:
Review quizzes are a part of the program and quiz grades will constitute 5% of the final grade. A mid-term examination will be given and will determine 45% of the final grade. A cumulative final examination will constitute 50% of the final grade.

STANDARDS OF SATISFACTORY PROGRESS:
Progress reports and grade standings will be available for every student and may be obtained from the instructor upon request. Students must maintain a minimum 70% average. Final grade reports are provided upon completion of each course and all records are maintained at the Champion Institute of Real Estate. Students must meet the minimum attendance and academic standards listed below in order to be eligible for certification. Those students not successfully completing the requirements for graduation must re-take and pass the entire 60-hour course and pay $175 tuition to be certified.
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS
1. Attend 60 hours of training to be certified;
2. Miss no more that a total of 12 hours of instruction (which must be made up) and
3. Have a minimum attendance of 100%
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
1. Achieve an average passing grade of at least 70%
The Champion Institute of Real Estate will record daily attendance and academic achievement on the student’s Permanent Transcript.
MAKE-UP WORK:
Students may make-up missed classes with the permission of the Director of Training and Education and on a space-available basis by attending the same class offered in a different schedule or in the next available class when it is offered. All classes must be made-up within three months of the student’s original date of completion.
Students must make-up a missed quiz within one week of the scheduled quiz at the instructor’s convenience. A missed Mid-term or Final can be made up when it is scheduled again in either the day or night class.
COST OF THE PROGRAM:
The total cost of the program is as follows:

The student must purchase the text, Modern Real Estate Practice, by Galaty, Allaway & Kyle, 17th edition and accompanying Modern Real Estate Practice Study Guide for an approximate retail cost of $65.00. The books are available through most bookstores, or the student may purchase the books through the school on the first day of class. Instructional materials will be provided by the school. All fees are due and payable prior to the first class.
All graduates of the school are afforded the opportunity to repeat any or all of the program within the first year of completing the program, at no additional cost, on a space-available basis and with the permission of the Director of Training and Education. Thereafter, tuition of $175 will be charged. Students who do not pass the state exam are encouraged take advantage of this opportunity.
REFUND POLICY:
1. All fees paid by the student (except books) shall be refunded if the student chooses not to enroll in or to withdraw from the school within 7 calendar days after having signed the Enrollment Agreement.
2. If the student chooses not to attend the scheduled class after the 7-day cancellation period, but before the first day of instruction, the student may re-schedule for a future class. If after re-scheduling, the student does not attend that class, a tuition refund will be issued to that student.
3. If, after the 7-day cancellation period expires, a student withdraws after instruction begins, refunds shall be based on the total contract price for the course program and shall include all fees, except any charges for materials, supplies or books which have been purchased by and are the property of the student. The minimum refund that a school shall pay a student who withdraws or is terminated after the 7-day cancellation period has expired and after instruction has begun is as follows:

4. If the school closes, cancels or discontinues a course program, the school shall refund to each currently enrolled student monies paid by that student for tuition and fees.
5. Students are required, to notify the Director of Training and Education if they are withdrawing from the school and desire a refund.
6. A refund due a student will be based on the date of withdrawal and paid within 60 days from the date of withdrawal or termination. The date of withdrawal or termination is the last day of attendance by the student.
7. In the case of an official leave of absence, if a student fails to return to training by the end of the leave of absence, a refund due a student shall be based on the date of withdrawal or termination and paid within 60 days of the scheduled last day of the leave of absence.
8. Books purchased are the property of the student and are NOT REFUNDABLE.
STUDENTS RIGHTS, PRIVILEGES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Each registered student has the right and privilege to receive the highest quality in pre-licensing education. Students must approach the pre-licensing class with the dedication and maturity essential to the real estate profession. They are required to act in a manner which will reflect credit on themselves, the Champion Institute of Real Estate and the profession. Students will be expected to have the highest ethical standards and conduct themselves accordingly. Any disruptive or illegal behavior by a student will not be tolerated and could result in immediate dismissal.
STUDENT SERVICES:
The Champion Institute of Real Estate cannot guarantee job placement or minimum starting salaries for its graduates.
STUDENT GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE:
Students who have a grievance with the Champion Institute of Real Estate are encouraged to discuss their concerns with their instructor. If the students do not find a satisfactory resolution of their concerns at that level, students may discuss their grievance with the Director of Training and Education or the School Director. If all channels within the school do not lead to a satisfactory resolution, the student may appeal by submitting a written complaint to:
